Bolshevists aim to set their rules on the lands of the Western Ukraine repeatedly occupied by them. UPA – the partisan army – resists their policy. Civil population becomes a hostage of this war "without rules", and above all – relatives of the insurgents. Invaders and their allies cruelly torture Ukrainian people, but the struggle continues. Irritated, "bolshevists" start evicting people to Siberia. UPA tries to prevent this action, but the forces are not equal... Insurgents can only take revenge and punish the executioners.

The film was created in the genre of an anecdote, where it is about a grandfather from a Ukrainian village who painted wooden eggs and decided to send them to the "iron lady". At the post office workers told him: "You can't!". But the grandfather showed character, did not give up on the plan, and, overcoming many obstacles, still sent the parcel.
During the war, the Nazis took the breeding horse Zarnitsa, winner of many international races, to Germany. But the horse refused to obey its new owner, jockey Shoiberg. Therefore, he was forced to release from captivity stableman Grigory, who took care of Zarnitsa before the war. Taking advantage of the situation, the stableman tried to escape and died. And Scheuberg decided to ride Zarnitsa after all, but at the finish line she threw off her rider and ran away. She was found and returned to her owner, and despite this, she tried many times to escape from captivity. Only at the very end of the war she was found by the stableman's son Lenka....
A strange combination of circumstances leads the forty-year-old engineer Igor into the hall of the old cinema, where the film session has already begun. The main character of the picture is the poet Belov, the same romantic loser, disappointed in himself and in everything - surprisingly similar to him. Moreover, Igor soon realizes that he is looking from the side at his own life. What is happening on the screen becomes a shock and revelation for him. In the dark hall of the mysterious cinema, fate gives Igor the only chance to start all over again.
