Kalani (Joi Campbell), is a teenager living in Harlem with her older brother Jacob, and her younger sister, Bebe, while her mother struggles to make ends meet. Her college counselor Mr. Rose (Danny Glover) sees great promise in her educational future. As Kalani's siblings get caught in a myriad of hardships, Kalani teeters on the brink of ruin as she struggles to keep both her family and her dream intact. Strive reminds us that hard work, optimism, and perseverance, in the face of overwhelming adversity, is the essence of what it is to be American.
Originally from Miami, Florida, Chelsea was apart of the inaugural Master of Fine Arts in Drama class at The Juilliard School. Chelsea's performance credits include the recent revival of Death of A Salesman starring Wendell Pierce, the Original Broadway Cast of Bob Dylan's Girl From the North Country, the 2019 Tony Award Winning Revival of Rogers and Hammerstein's Oklahoma!, The Public Theater, Williamstown Theater Festival, and The Apollo Theater. Chelsea also plays opposite JoiStarr and Danny Glover in the feature film "Strive" which is streaming on AMC's Urban Movie Channel. Chelsea attended the Historically Black College, Florida A&M University and New World School of the Arts High School in Miami, Florida.
